" We will continue to support this work which is a logical extension of Maria Montessori’s work in a world that mirrors the one she was living in. We must join Tatenda in remembering her words: “If help and salvation are to come, they can only come from the children, for children are the makers of men”. I join AMS in its recognition of Tatenda as “Innovator of the Year”. With others support he will hopefully innovate and serve for many years to come. "

Frequently Asked Questions

What inspired you to pursue Montessori education and advocacy?

My journey into Montessori was unexpected yet transformative. While visiting Beijing, I was introduced to the philosophy, and it completely reshaped my understanding of how children learn best—through curiosity, independence, and hands-on exploration. Since then, I’ve worked in Kenya, Zimbabwe, and the U.S. to expand access to Montessori education, ensuring it is culturally relevant and inclusive for diverse communities.

What is Montessori on Wheels, and how does it work?

Montessori on Wheels is a mobile learning program that brings Montessori-inspired education to Black and Brown communities, particularly those without access to traditional Montessori schools. Through mobile classrooms, learning kits, and parent workshops, we create rich learning environments beyond the four walls of a school, ensuring that every child, regardless of socioeconomic background, has access to high-quality early education.

How do your workshops and training programs support educators?

My workshops are designed to be practical, engaging, and culturally responsive. Whether it’s integrating Afrocentric Montessori principles, decolonizing early childhood education, or reimagining learning beyond classrooms, I ensure educators walk away with actionable strategies. I also offer one-on-one coaching for school leaders and teachers looking to refine their practice.

Can Montessori education be adapted to different cultures and communities?

Absolutely! Montessori is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It thrives when adapted to reflect the languages, traditions, and lived experiences of the children it serves. My work focuses on making Montessori relevant to African, Indigenous, and historically marginalized communities by centering their knowledge systems and cultural practices.

How can I collaborate with you or bring your programs to my community?

I offer keynote speaking, consulting, and customized training for schools, nonprofits, and organizations looking to implement Montessori principles or advance educational equity. If you're interested in collaborating, hosting a workshop, or bringing Montessori on Wheels to your community, feel free to reach out!
